EP Review: Archers – Temporary High (SBG Records)

‘Temporary High’ is the brand-new EP from metalcore up-and-comers Archers, due out on 13th June via SBG Records.

Hot damn! How anthemic is this EP and how brilliant are Archers!? When it comes to metalcore I tend to not expect too much these days, seeing as it’s an oversaturated genre and far too many bands are obsessed with modernising it via electronica. It’s hard to get too excited by any band that gets lumbered into the genre, even if it’s not what defines them. Then, along comes a band like this who do metalcore so well, they change all opinions and remind the listener of the genre’s strength.

A band who pour so much ion into all aspects of their sound, experiment, but never pointlessly, and show off a stunning amount of range. A band with incredibly talented individual , but together, create something unforgettable. Yes, I am gushing, but for good reason. Temporary High is a brilliant release, and Archers are a brilliant band.

I was pretty much sold from the start with the confident Better Off, a showcase of Archer’s heavier ways, but also their clever twists on the melodic/electronica formula. Then along came Wide Awake with its soaring chorus, brutal breakdown, and overall infectious nature to convince me even more. However, it was the emotional prettiness, relatable honesty, and sweet melodies of Safe Now that confirmed this band’s quality. These three tracks show such range.

It’s back to a big infectious hit of adrenaline with Never Enough. Featuring massive amounts of modern invention that comes in several waves. The chorus, which is so anthemic, the blasts of aggression, which will make your teeth shake, and a breakdown that simply slays. Another killer track, and sharing equal footing with everything that came before, and what comes after. Namely Crooked Smile, a track with likable RnB infusions, tons of swaying melody, and tons of anthemic value.

I know, right!? What a band.
